Senior Software Engineer – AI (m/w/d)

Together with our partner, the leading provider of mission-critical software for medium-sized IT service providers in the DACH region, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer / Product Owner – AI Platform (m/f/d). The role is offered in a hybrid working model and can be based in Hanover, Ulm, Karlsruhe, or Parsberg, with attendance at any of these locations required at least once per month.

With your deep backend expertise in Spring Boot and initial hands-on experience with LLMs and agent-based architectures, you are an excellent fit for this position. During an exciting phase of growth, you will have the opportunity to play a key role in developing and professionalising the AI platform of an established market leader.You will not only take ownership of the day-to-day backend operations, but will also actively shape structures, processes, and architectural approaches.Working closely with the CTO / Head of Engineering, you will lay the technical foundations for future growth and continuously develop the company’s AI infrastructure.

Backend Development & Operations

You will take operational responsibility for the design, development, and operation of the core backend services of the AI Agent Platform, which is being established as a new and independent service.

AI Pipelines & Workflows

You will translate business and product requirements into robust technical structures by building and integrating LLM-powered agent pipelines, agentic workflows, and the agent execution engine, with a strong focus on reliability and observability.

Architecture & Event Routing

You will actively drive the development and maintenance of APIs, WebSocket connections, and event-driven architectures to ensure that automation events from different sources are transparently routed to the appropriate agents.

Management UIs & Quality

You will ensure smooth and reliable operations, develop user interfaces for configuring, monitoring, and testing agents, and maintain high standards of code quality, performance, and scalability.

Strategic Growth

In close collaboration with product management and your fellow developers, you will preserve existing technical knowledge and shape the technical foundations required for further expansion within an agile team.

You bring a strong hands-on mentality, including rapid prototyping and continuous iteration in production environments. You take ownership of your systems and communicate openly and professionally at eye level.

Required Technologies

• Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot, ideally including Spring Security, AMQP, and WebSocket
• Strong experience with SQL databases, ideally PostgreSQL
• Initial practical experience with Python as well as AI and web libraries
• Good foundational knowledge of Docker

Nice to Have

• Experience with pgvector and embedding-based search
• Familiarity with agent frameworks such as LangGraph, Claude Agent SDK, or AutoGen
• Experience working with LLM APIs and common agent patterns
• Experience with LLM observability tools such as Langfuse or LangSmith
• Experience with webhook infrastructures and API gateway patterns
• Experience with event queues such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or comparable systems
• Practical experience with Angular and TypeScript
